FAQ

  • I have not had counselling before, what should I expect?

Starting this journey can be really difficult, but once your settled counselling is a lot less scary than it seems. If you’re interested, please fill out a contact us form and well get in touch to arrange an introductory telephone call. We have a next steps section on home page that will help to explain what happens next.

  • Is it confidential?

It is important for your development that you feel safe, part of that is ensuring our sessions are confidential. There will be times when this is not possible; if you disclose information suggesting you are a danger to yourself or others, or if there is a child at risk. In that instance, measures will be taken to get you help and support.

  • Who can go to counselling?

Everybody struggles at some point in their lives and everybody is welcome to partake in counselling. Finding what works for you, is what’s important. At BRC, we offer private sessions to over 18s. We do not work privately with children outside of a school or charity environment.

  • How many sessions do I need?

The amount of sessions people need, vary from person to person and are individualised to their needs and concerns. A standard set of counselling offered in the NHS is between 6-8 sessions, with the possibility of extensions. At BRC the amount of sessions you want, it ultimately up to you.

  • Will I have to do an assessment?

There is no set assessment before you start, but there will be an intake form that you need to complete before your first session. You will be given the option of completing a short assessment questionnaire in your first session and is then repeated routinely throughout your journey to track your progress, but it is not mandatory.

  • What guidelines do you follow?

I am an accredited registrant of the NCPS, so I follow their ethnical guidelines but I also work within the guidelines of the BACP, where applicable.
