What is counselling?
Counselling it a type of talking therapy. It provides a confidential safe space for individuals to explore their inner selves and help them resolve issues they may be having that is causing concern. It aims to help you explore and understand past or current difficulties you may be facing.
Counselling is not a quick fix to problems you may be facing but it does provide an opportunity and space to talk to an non-judgemental 3rd party outside of whatever issue may be concerning you.
A large part of counselling relies on the therapeutic relationship between yourself and your counsellor and the trust that is built. The first couple of sessions may feel a little awkward or that they’re not really helping. You may feel worse, which is completely normal, to start with as you start to uncover and understand difficult things about yourself that you didn’t know before.
The role of your counsellor is to provide a caring, judgment free space to help enable you with the confidence and ability to look inside yourself and help sort through what may be going on for you. You will not be given direct advice or told how to best manage your life, It will be a colloraborate effort to work on your strengths and identifying ways to help you manage and cope with the difficulties you are facing,
The type of counselling offered at Blue Rose Counselling is person-centred counselling. This therapeutic approach places you, the client, as the expert of your own reality. The sessions are led by you and what you would like to bring to each session. Thus modality allows for flexibility means each session can vary greatly, wether you want to focus on one specific past issue that is causing current day difficulties for a handful of weeks or you’re looking for general support and space to sift through current day to day issues.
Counselling can come in multiple different formats. At Blue Rose Counselling we offer In-Person, Online, and Telephone.
-
In person counselling, sometimes called face-to-face counselling, is the traditional and most popular form. It requires both therapist and client to be in the same room and allows the use of body language and physical characteristics to be part of therapeutic process.
-
Online counselling grew in popularity during the Covid-19 lockdown. This format allows for video calling when it may be difficult for you to leave your home or for those who are too busy to commit to the commute to a physical location. It can help with those who would prefer to have their sessions in the comfort of their own homes.
-
Telephone counselling takes place over a phone call and is a useful format of counselling for those who may struggle being seen or perceived in a traditional therapy environment. It can also be useful for people who struggle with looking at their therapist prefer the anonymity associated with it.
